As early as 4,000 years ago in the late Neolithic Age, the connection between Jianchuan County and wood carving had revealed a clue. Highly developed social forms and activity vestiges closely related to architecture, production and life were uncovered for the ancient Yunnan people who lived on the waterfront of the present-day Jianchuan Haimenkou in this period.As the old saying goes in western Yunnan since ancient times, “Lijiang is famous for pancake, Heqing famous for wine, so as Jianchuan for its carpentry.According to a book about Yunnan in the Qing Dynasty, since farming could not sustain the growing local population, carpentry became the major trade in Jianchuan.
